It Was 1985, Big Hair, Big Cars, Big Homes, And Gold. I Became A Realtor; Here Is My Story.

I always knew I wanted to work with people, help them invest, make money & have a sense of security. So I was thinking, what’s the most important investment people make?  The answer was real estate.

I wanted folks to own something that would grow in value, an investment, tax shelter, & more.  Once I received my license, I interviewed with a couple of firms.

In 1985, Merrill Lynch Realty hired a much younger Kevin, at their Dunedin Branch.  I was the youngest agent by 15 years, the new kid on the block, literally.  I did open houses for any agent that would let me.  I still to this day remember my 1st Sale, a $50,000 house. The buyer was a couple from New Jersey & my 1st listing, a 3br home for $79,900 both were in Clearwater.

I received the “Rookie of the Year” Award, which was such an honor for me!  In my 4th year, I joined Re/Max Realty; they were for only Top Producers, you actually had to pay a monthly fee, whether you sold a house or not.  My co-workers said I wouldn’t make it & would come crawling back.

Well, I was with Re/Max for 12 successful years.  In 2001 I had been living in South Tampa, commuting to Clearwater for 5 years already.  I thought about changing my market area, but was scared.

December 2001, I took the plunge & joined LIST Realty.  It was like starting all over.  I had to find new clients, learn the neighborhoods, schools, names of streets & what were the best places to shop, etc.  I worked hard, spread my good reputation around Tampa & helped many families buy their dream homes.

The market crashed in 2008, a horrible time for millions of people, in fact, the world.  I decided to move to New York City & sell.  After 1 year, I realized how amazing Tampa Bay really is, & the quality of life for me was back in Tampa. So I moved back, worked harder than ever before & my life, my career, has been blessed again.

So this December 1st marks 20 years with LIST and Century 21 and 36 years as a real estate agent. To this day, I still love the challenge of finding the right house for a client. It starts by truly listening to a client, asking the right questions, and then beginning the initial search, which leads to more listening, more showings, and finding the right home. Then the fun of negotiating, contracts, the final walkthrough, and closing. I’m still in love with the process and the people!
