After Hurricane Helene: Kevin Freel’s Tampa Recovery Resources Hub

Hurricane Helene Flood Recovery: A Realtor’s Perspective

In my 54 years of living in Tampa, I’ve never seen anything like this. Hurricane Helene hit us hard, and the flooding was unlike anything we’ve experienced before. Most people I’ve spoken with say the same—they’ve never seen the water rise like this. I was one of the lucky ones, but so many of my friends and clients weren’t. My heart goes out to everyone who’s just beginning the difficult process of recovery.

I immediately called everyone I knew, offering help. I wanted to do more, though. That’s when I started compiling resources, from friends, colleagues, and a variety of organizations. Below are some critical resources that I hope will help my community in these challenging times.

FEMA Assistance for Flood Recovery

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is a key player when it comes to disaster recovery. If you’ve been impacted by flooding, you may qualify for financial assistance, housing aid, or emergency services. Visit FEMA’s website for more information on how to apply.

If you’re dealing with structural damage to your home or are unsure about the safety of your property, FEMA also provides guidance on next steps. Don’t hesitate to reach out to them, as the earlier you apply for assistance, the quicker the process can move forward.

Temporary Housing Solutions for Displaced Families

If your home was affected by Hurricane Helene and you’re in need of temporary housing, there are multiple options available to help. The Florida Disaster website offers various resources for housing, and there are several platforms where you can find fully furnished, temporary homes to rent.

It’s crucial to reach out as soon as possible, as housing availability may be limited.

Financial Aid and Emergency Supplies

For those who have lost essential items or need financial help, there are multiple resources available:

These organizations are committed to helping our community get back on its feet. Make sure to check out what resources you may qualify for.

Offering Help: How You Can Make a Difference

If you were one of the lucky ones, like me, you might be wondering how you can give back. There are plenty of ways to get involved, from donating to helping provide temporary housing.

Even if you can’t physically help, donating or offering a room to someone in need can make a significant impact.

Let’s Rebuild Tampa Together

As a community, we are resilient. We’ve faced challenges before, and we’ll face them again. Hurricane Helene hit us hard, but with everyone pulling together, we’ll rebuild. If you or someone you know needs assistance, reach out. If you’re in a position to help, now’s the time to step up. Together, we’ll restore Tampa and come out stronger on the other side.

Stay safe, stay strong.
